Our headlines may be confusing, but they are true, alright! The director of superhit films like JAB WE MET and LOVE AAJ KAL hates the terminology Bollywood. Like the megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who hates the Hindi film industry being referred to as Bollywood, Imtiaz too detests the word Bollywood. And he has a very strong reason behind it, one that many will agree with.
The talented filmmaker feels that that the term Bollywood is an imitation of Hollywood, and he does not want his beloved industry to be a cheap imitation. He adds light heartedly that there are so many words now, and even Hollywood is actually a tree that grows in LA, in that area, which is why the term Hollywood Avenue came about, and that is how the film industry got its name Hollywood.
So, what does Imtiaz like to call the industry which has given him name, fame, money and success? Imtiaz prefers to call the industry, the Bombay film industry, as he feels that the name Bombay is free and has always been associated with the film industry.
